My name is Matt Landfair. I had been a police officer for 13 years until recently, I realized I needed to go back to school. I have been involved in police training as a student and instructor for the past 15 years. Through the years I found I have a passion for instruction, specifically instruction involving tactics and firearms.

The best training I had ever attended was in Arkansas. The facility is called the Direct Action Resource Center or DARC. Here former U.S. special operations soldiers train federal agencies, law enforcement agencies, and top tier military units- various skill sets not able to be taught elsewhere. The specific course I attended was the Law Enforcement Counter Terrorism Course (LECTC). This course was well over one hundred hours of training within a weeks time. We conducted daytime and nighttime operations no matter the weather. We used force on force weapons which shot a plastic projectile that has marking capabilities. I still have some scars from getting hit by them.

The overall goal of attending a course like this is to pass this information on to other law enforcement officers and agencies. The material presented is far surpasses any SWAT courses I have ever taken. I think this was the most difficult course I had ever taken. So I went back and attended a second time. I found I retained much of the information and skillsets I gained from my first go through. As an added bonus, a TV crew was present and filmed our entire course. We are still waiting to hear when the show will be broadcast on an NBC channel. I am currently planning out my third trip to further hone my abilities. The next time I attend the course I will be attending through as an instructor trainee.

Through the training at DARC, I found the course helps build:

• Enter and systematically clear a complicated residential and/or commercial structure that is occupied by a well equipped, well organized and fanatical terrorist cell with a small group of officers.
• Execute a coordinated deliberate, hasty, assault with support elements and multiple teams.
• Counter-assault armed suspects from a vehicle.
• Pursuit of multiple armed suspects on foot while in urban and open terrain.
• Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) operations.
• Limited visibility operations.
• Sustain effective contact & disruption of the terrorist?s goal(s) while managing casualties.
• Non-electronic Communication and Coordination Tactics, Techniques & Procedures (TTP?s).
• Stronghold domination techniques.
• Coordinate & Link-up with rapid response teams(uniform officers) on and/or in view of active terrorist cells in contact.
• Rapid & fluid (scalable) response to simultaneous attacks, both mobile & fixed, in variable terrain under adverse conditions.
• Proper coordination, training and use of Patrol Officers, and other Emergency Personnel, for active counter measures.
• Establish mind-set for the LEO to appropriately deter, counter & contain a homicidal paramilitary operation within their jurisdiction.
